Is tonight worth it at Baishuihu Shoudao?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A former salt field at Zhangtan in Dongshi that the sinking land has handed back to the sea: at high tide the access road goes under, leaving a line of utility poles and the stumps of road markers standing in the water, and at low tide it reappears and you can walk it out to the oyster beds and the sand. The name comes from the salt that used to float on the floodwater after typhoons. It faces west over the strait and the oyster farms, their foam floats and shell piles in the foreground, and it has become one of Chiayi’s best-known sunsets since the 2020 film My Missing Valentine put its walled-less seaside toilet on screen.
The tide table is the whole plan: high water for the drowned road, low water to walk it, and never a car past the lot by the embankment. The road in is narrow with one stretch where two cars cannot pass. The High Heel Wedding Church (see writeup here) is three kilometers south in Budai, Haomei Beach (here) is beyond it, and Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf (here) is up the coast.
