Is tonight worth it at Cihu Sunset Viewing Platform?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
Cihu is a lake on Kinmen’s west coast, held back from the sea by a causeway, and the platform on the seaward side looks straight across the strait to the skyline of Xiamen. The sun sets behind that skyline, which is a view you will not get anywhere else in Taiwan.
The causeway and the old triangular fort at its end are part of the same walk. In winter the lake fills with cormorants coming in to roost at dusk, thousands at a time, which draws as many people as the sunset does.
