Is tonight worth it at Guanziling, Biyun Temple?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
Guanziling is the hot-spring village in Tainan’s Baihe hills, known for Taiwan’s only mud springs, and Biyun Temple sits above it on the shoulder of Mt. Zhentou, facing west over the whole Chianan Plain. The terrace in front of the temple is the sunset spot: the plain runs out flat to the strait, and on a clear evening the sun goes down behind a line of distant coast with the temple roofs in the foreground.
The temple dates to 1701 and is worth the visit on its own, and the Water and Fire Cave, where gas burns on the surface of a spring, is a short walk down the road. Soak in the mud springs after dark; the village is lit and busy on weekend evenings.
