The spot

A long, very flat beach behind a casuarina windbreak at Haomei, south of Budai, that the county has taken to calling the sky mirror: on a receding tide the wet sand holds the sky so completely that sea and sky run together, and the sun goes into the strait due west. Thirty hectares of this beach were won back over ten years of sand fences and planting, and in 2025 it went viral as a secret beach, with the crowds and litter that follow.

The mirror needs a falling tide and little wind, so check the tables; people dig for clams at low water and the sand is soft near the edge. Nothing is built here and nothing is lit, so bring a light for the walk back through the trees. The 3D painted village at Haomei is a few minutes inland, and the High Heel Wedding Church (see writeup here) is up the road in Budai.
