The spot

A small tidal islet off Jincheng on Kinmen’s southwest shore, reached on foot along a causeway that only shows at low tide, past a row of tall bronze figures of oyster farmers standing out in the shallows. The sun sets to the west across the water with Xiamen’s skyline on the horizon, and the walk out over wet sand doubles everything in reflection.

Check the tide table before you go. The causeway floods again within a couple of hours of low water and the crossing is closed at high tide, so a sunset here only works on days when low tide falls in the evening.
