Ferry from Fugang (Taitung) or Houbihu (Kenting), two to two and a half hours, or a small plane from Taitung. On the island, a scooter; the harbor is where the ferry lands.

The spot
Kaiyuan is Lanyu’s port, on the west coast at Yeyou village, and the sea in front of it is where the sun goes down. The harbor wall, the ferry dock and the road above it all look straight west, with the island’s cliffs running away to the north and south and traditional Tao canoes pulled up on the shore nearby.
It is also the one place on the island with a cluster of shops and restaurants, so it is the natural end to a day of riding the ring road.
