The spot
A rounded rock the shape of a steamed bun sitting in the sea just south of Kaiyuan Harbor on Lanyu’s west coast. At sunset it is a clean silhouette against the sky, and the pull-off on the ring road above it is one of the island’s classic stopping points.
The road is narrow here and traffic is scooters, so pull right off. The light after the sun has gone is often the best part, with the rock going black against a sky that stays lit for half an hour.
