Is tonight worth it at Lianhua Pavilion, Mt. Zhongliao?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A pavilion on the crest of Mt. Zhongliao in Tianliao, the ridge between the Moon World badlands and the Kaohsiung plain, reached by a quiet mountain road popular with cyclists. The view is all the way round: the badlands to the east, and to the west the plain running out to the sea, with the sun going down beyond Gangshan and the coast.
The road up is the draw as much as the top, with lookouts along the way, and the pavilion is a known night-view stop for the lights of the plain. Dagangshan (see writeup here) is the next ridge west and Hill 308 (see writeup here) is across the badlands to the north.
