Getting there & back
Is tonight worth it at Lishui Fishing Harbor?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A small fishing harbor on the Dadu River mouth in Longjing, dating back to the eighteenth century, with a lookout on the seawall rebuilt from a disused coast-guard post in blue-and-white Greek style, arches and a bell gate included. Taichung’s tourism bureau sells it as a place photographers come for the afterglow, and it is: the harbor faces west, the sun goes into the strait, and the lookout gives you the arches to frame it with. The Taichung power plant’s stacks stand just to the north.
Low tide uncovers mudflats with crabs and mudskippers; the embankment is the western end of a 5-kilometer cycleway, so watch for bikes on the path. There is no bus here, which keeps it quieter than Gaomei Wetlands (see writeup here) up the coast. Wuqi Fishing Port (here) is the next harbor north.
