Is tonight worth it at Qieding Coast Park?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
Kaohsiung’s northernmost stretch of shore, where the city rebuilt a scruffy sea wall into a coast park with lawns, shelters and a bike path running south toward Xingda Port. The beach faces west over open water, and the evening draw is the combination: the sunset from the park, then seafood at Xingda’s fish market, which opens mid-afternoon.
The Qieding Wetlands sit just inland, a former Japanese-era salt field that now holds mudskippers, fiddler crabs and, in winter, black-faced spoonbills; the bird hides are a short ride from the park. Lovers’ Wharf at Xingda Port (see writeup here) is the other sunset stand along this coast, a couple of kilometers south, and the Golden Coast (see writeup here) is across the river to the north.
