Getting there & back
Is tonight worth it at FAB Green Village?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A hotel and mall complex at Youchekou, between Tamsui’s old street and Fisherman’s Wharf, whose big selling point is the roof: a sloping lawn of more than 3,000 square meters on top of the mall, with a curving white walkway up the side and sculptures and reflecting pools at the bottom. The lawn tilts toward the river mouth, so from the top you look west over the Tamsui River to Guanyinshan and Bali, straight into the sunset.
It’s an easy one: take the lift or the ramp, no hike at all, and the whole place is lit after dark, with the walkway and the pools glowing while the lights come on across the river. I’d call the view a 4, since trees and the hotel block part of the horizon and the river mouth is off to one side, but it is a pleasant lawn to sit on with a crowd of families and couples doing the same. I went in summer 2022, before the Danjiang Bridge went up, and need to go back, because the Youchekou boardwalk just below the park is now the Highway Bureau’s top pick for shooting the bridge at sunset, and the roof should get the same view from higher up.
Tamsui Old Street (see writeup here) is a 20-minute walk back along the river and Fisherman’s Wharf (see writeup here) the same distance the other way, so this slots neatly between them.
