Is tonight worth it at Xiaochijiao Double-Curved Bridge?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A white T-shaped footbridge built in 1996 off the west coast of Xiyu, with two green umbrella pavilions at its ends, that the township put up so people could watch the tide and the sunset. It is famous for its daytime water, which at high tide turns the Maldives blue that fills Penghu’s feeds, but it faces straight west across the strait and the sun sets directly ahead of the bridge; the pavilions are where you sit for the red sky.
Everything depends on the tide: the water is under the bridge only within about two hours of high tide, and at low water a rock platform and the remains of a stone fish weir appear instead. Aim for a high tide near sunset and bring a windbreaker, since Xiyu is exposed from October to March. Yuwengdao Lighthouse (see writeup here) is on the same island, at its southern tip.
