Is tonight worth it at Xiaoshan Kanhai, Xiaoliuqiu?
The app scores every spot from the forecast at its own sunset hour, with the seven-day outlook and the last train home. Six spots are free.
The spot
A café and garden on the cliff above Xiaoliuqiu’s west coast, near Beauty Cave, with hammocks and bean bags set out on the grass facing the sea. The island’s west side looks across open water to the Taiwan Strait, so the sun goes straight into the sea with nothing on the horizon, and this is the comfortable way to watch it: drink in hand, feet up. A minimum spend applies; it is a business, not a park, and they run sunset yoga on the lawn.
The island’s free sunset stands are nearby: Vase Rock (see writeup here) is ten minutes north by scooter, the Shanfu Ecological Walk (here) is just down the coast, and the Sunset Pavilion (here) is on the southwest shore.
