The spot
Taoyuan’s main fishing harbor is a few minutes from the airport, with a red arch bridge over the harbor mouth that frames the sunset from the sea wall. The fish market inside is the other attraction, and the two together make it a well-used evening out for people from Taoyuan and Zhongli.
The coast here is flat and faces due west, so the sun goes straight into the sea with aircraft on their approach overhead.
I was here on a July evening. The sun went down behind the red light at the end of the breakwater, the beach south of the harbor had people on it until dark, and the blue hour over the breakwater afterward was the best part of the night.
