Cijin Island is just a few minutes ferry (or a short drive) from downtown Kaohsiung. It’s a fantastic spot for renting a bike and going along the coast to see the many viewing spots for the sunset.
One good choice is Cijin Beach (Cijin is sometimes spelled on Qijin on signage and maps, but they are referring to the same place). The Cijin Windmill Park is another great option. Another popular spot (especially for Instagrammers) is the Qijin Coastal Park, which includes the Rainbow Church and the Sea Pearl, among other cool-looking art structures that can be used to frame the sunset.
Other great options back on land in Kaohsiung are Xiziwan (see writeup here) or KW2 (see writeup here).
You can get to Cijin by car – there’s multiple parking lots not far from the coast. You can also take the 5-minute ferry ride from Gushan Ferry Pier Station then walk, bike, rent one of the many unique scooters or other vehicles, or find other transportation once you’re on Cijin.
